December 2011 Monthly Vedic Astrology Planner
Vedic astrology is the traditional system of astrology of India that is at least 4000 years old. It is also known as Jyotish, Indian astrology, Eastern astrology, or Hindu astrology. It has recently gained popularity in the West because of its accuracy in predicting events and major trends in our lives. Vedic astrology is an excellent tool for helping us understand our dharma or life purpose as well as for giving us specific timetables for making decisions about career, finances, relationship, health, spiritual growth, etc. It is based on the sidereal zodiac which calculates the positions of the planets according to observable astronomy.
Thursday the 1st
It’s hard to believe that we face the end of 2011, a year of records for drought, heat and floods and more. As we move through this final chapter, many folks are looking at relationships. Yours may be ending or beginning, but it’s on your mind. This isn’t just about romance, but the end or beginning of life and love. Whew! Relationship soil is rich now. Tend yours with gratitude and generosity. If you have any abundance: share it. You will know great richness simply from that experience. No matter what your bank balance is, you will understand what it is to be rich. Today Venus the planet of love and money sits with Pluto the planet of power. I often talk about Plutocrats the likes of Warren Buffet. But as this month begins, Jupiter the teacher is moving inward. Mars the planet of action and planet is guided by Jupiter’s grace and Venus holds hands with Pluto to help them all move from lack to wealth. Don’t think of it as what you need to buy but what you have to give. It’s a theme for today and this month and takes us into the real meaning of the 2012 shift.
Friday the 2nd
Mercury is retrograde until the 13th. Today and for several days, Mercury sits in the eclipse path with Rahu the dragon’s head aka the point of desire. Mercury might suggest greed inspired words, or slogans by political action groups. But I suspect that retailers and online sales will have a really big weekend and first week. Caution: if you are going out or just looking on line. Listen to what’s said and what you are hoping to hear. This combination is ripe for believing words of a deceitful, desire-filled stranger. Not to put a damper on the holiday weekend, but balance what your hearing against how much you’ve had to drink. Don’t go out alone!
Saturday the 3rd
A busy day with plenty of surprises. They aren’t all good or bad. The Moon moves toward Uranus the planet of accidents. Pick flat shoes over tall platforms. No matter how drab they look, they are nothing compared to blisters and bruises. Be sure you grab the oven glove before you grab that hot pan; and yes, resist temptation to talk or text and drive. Your concentration may be stellar, but you are not alone on the highway of life. Everyone is a little wired when Uranus comes to the party.
Sunday the 4th
Folks who are surrounded by family want to be alone: Folks who are alone long for a companion and so it goes. The Moon pulls away from Uranus. And we want to break free from something or someone. As we pull away from Saturn’s day, we all want to be free of something or some one. Set aside a little time to write down your thoughts on freedom or anything. Retrograde Mercury is great for the re words: reflect, review and even revive! When you begin to blow your precious minutes away to resuscitate past pain, you are spending foolishly. Step out of that cycle by listing your grace or gifts. There is no day more powerful to revive this practice and make it a part of your future joy.
Monday the 5th
A rather moody Monday. The Moon is in a very soulful and hopeful lunar mansion, but it’s a work day for many. Even if you aren’t punching a clock, you’re probably tied to your check list like a runner on a treadmill. You keep going faster, but it seems you get nowhere. Take a few deep breaths and surrender to the moment. Breathe until you settle into the energy of the day. If you must lock yourself into a stall in the ladies room to get quiet inside…do it. Better still, awaken early and take a long shower or silent walk around the house. There is no better day to hear the whisper of guidance and Truth…and there is no better day to miss it while you’re running to catch up to something. Take the quiet challenge and have a productive day.
Tuesday the 6th
Off and running! This is a happy and playful day. It’s lucky too! Particularly for YOU, if you happen to have planets in Aries in your Vedic chart. [That’s Taurus in your western chart.] The Moon crosses Jupiter and we get a boost. The Moon is our perceptions and Jupiter helps us see the good stuff even where we missed it before. This is a great day to show a house or buy one.
Wednesday the 7th
Oh Geeze! Where are we supposed to meet? What time is the client coming and other annoying details of a scheduled life are flying in the face of what you’d really like: Silence. Better get over the embarrassment and ask for help. This is a classic Retrograde Mercury day. Little details that were carefully filed in your memory bank were carried off by the gods of distraction. Yes, another cup of coffee probably would help. But the real antidote to this situation: Schedule in down time. Stretch your body and move through it. If you are on the receiving end of a missed appointment you have the opportunity for some free time. You can spend it on anger or indulge in gratitude. It really is your choice.
Thursday the 8th
The next few days are delicate in many ways. Mars can be aggressive when he triggers the eclipse path. It’s not a full embrace of desire or the price tag hidden in desire’s sleeve. But you might be tempted to push your agenda or schedule on the folks around you. Be gentle, others are pushing too. It’s also time for a lunar eclipse. The emotional eclipse come on Saturday, but we are collectively in a mood and pushy. Before you jump ahead in line remember someone might jump on you….grins. Civility and humor are the antidotes. Use them lavishly. And you day might be enhanced by strangers.
Friday the 9th
More shopping motivation as the Moon spend the day in an indulgent lunar mansion. The President’s moon his here so expect this eclipse to bring his emotions to the surface. Not always dramatic: We might hear what he wants for himself, his family and the nation. Any speech today or tomorrow will be memorable and might be emotional in many ways.
Saturday the 10th
The Lunar eclipse is here. Many folks will feel the weight of lack: Too little money for winter bills and too little to have or to share. If you have any extra give where you can and as much as you can. Uranus appears to stand still now. Uranus is all about liberation and revolution. Be flexible and creative. Most of all; be open to opportunity. It’s out there, but it will come in a surprising way. Look for good news too.
Sunday the 11th
We can’t all rule the world…but today we’d like to have some control… Grins. The Moon pulls away from the planets to help us gain perspective. But today, she triggers the power planets Uranus: change, Pluto: power and Neptune the gift of faith. How’s that for a challenge. Bend like a reed in the wind. Know that you are strong to make big decisions and reach for faith or alternative healing on all levels. Remember: The moon is our perceptions so it might take a little while to adjust your lens on life to include acceptance rather than demand to have it your way.
Monday the 12th
Good grief! It seems that things are out of control. As if God turned on the faucet and let it run. Take a deep breath and ease into it as if you are adjusting to cold water. Pretty soon you are moving through it rather than against it. This is a busy week. The news is not as bad as it sounds, but change is under way. It is important to listen to both sides before you fight for either.
Tuesday the 13th
Today is Mars’ day. Mars is impatient. For several days, he’s triggered the eclipse path. He intensifies desires and their consequences. It will be several more days before things settle down around us. The world economies are tied together. We all must sacrifice a little. Take note. Folks who demand things stay the same will bring down others big and small. Keep an eye on the Arab nations.
Wednesday the 14th
Mercury moves forward. Better get going with it. Yes, there really is a stack of mail to send on paper or online. Yes, you really are overwhelmed by social networking. Yes, it was rather pleasant when you went off line for a day. Well, once you stopped fighting. The best part about this time: people start speaking or hearing your language again. That makes everything a little easier.
Thursday the 15th
Keep starting over. This is a challenge. Humor helps when frustration appears to win. Start over when you want to argue. Start over when you lose your patience. Start over with your job search. Start over as you aim to be a better, wiser, more compassionate person. Yes, that includes dealing with “those” people.
Friday the 16th
It’s Friday and we’d rather flow than fight. The Moon joins Mars to help us get things done. Mars is a tricky bug. He’s willing to fight but is at his best when he’s part of a team. Take the challenge and find a way to perceive [Moon] that you are part of the action team [Mars]. Take heed: If you are distracted by Mars / Moon’s tendency to be reactive, you will lose precious time and your team will suffer. Yes, this does mean you must take lessons from wolves: the leader is a mix of courage, strength and [[[ charm! ]]]] This is a good evening for a party or date night. Passion runs high.
Saturday the 17th
Get up early and get things done. As the Moon pulls away from Mars we see what needs to get done and have a surge of energy to do it. Alone or with your “pack” the morning is most productive and the afternoon is great for a little siesta before you accomplish much this evening. If you are heading out on the town or to a party, wear comfortable shoes. You’ll want to meet, mingle and move.
Sunday the 18th
Emotions may run high and low this day. The Moon faces Uranus and we want to be free. Free of the past, free of fear, free of anxiety about the future. The Moon triggers Pluto too. Much of the fear is stirred by the media. If your mind starts searching for all the bad stuff, move away from your electronics and get your hands busy. Any task is therapy and every time you acknowledge what’s happening in the world, but choose your course of action you are free. Free to live by your choices and free to know what is happening outside you. Simply put: Enjoy this day
Monday the 19th
The Sun and Jupiter reach for the good stuff. For all the folks terrified of the Sun moving into the Galactic Center in 2012….well, it’s there this week. In fact, it’s there every year with such great regularity because we on Earth watch the sun rise and set every 24 hours, every day of the year: Nothing any scarier than this for December next year.
Tuesday the 20th
Stressful aspects occur in the wee hours: They might make from some strange dreams or other odd bedfellows. Don’t be surprised if you wake up in a mood. Just don’t buy into it: shake it off and embrace the day. Things are getting done and the general mood is light. Hanukkah begins at sunset. May the Middle East be peaceful.
Wednesday the 21st
Jupiter triggers the Sun and opens the door for good will and optimism. The down side of Jupiter is he wants to enjoy all the food and drink at the party. The upside: he doesn’t care if he gains a few pounds. If you happen to feel the Jupiter expansion, don’t worry. Saturn faces Jupiter and you know what you need to do to take it off…later. Enjoy the party and schedule a Saturn reality check another day.
Thursday the 22nd
The Winter Solstice: The longest night of the year. What dark fears visit you in the night? I vote that we collectively face down fears of 2012 and embrace a year of strength and courage. I dare you to join me! That’s my Mars voice and Mars is the strength of a team and action. Get up off the couch and enjoy the coming year and this day. Are you ready for longer days and more sun? That’s an easy Yes!
Friday the 23rd
The Moon crossed through the eclipse path in a mansion all too good at revisiting betrayals. We get drawn in dialogues with ghosts of pain and shadows of the past. It’s said that Rahu aka the North Node gives and Ketu, the South node, takes away. Today we might get a few of those old ghosts, but we also are reminded that they are only alive in our thoughts because we keep them there. Let them go. Caution: Rahu and the Moon are a classic combination for too much of anything. That includes alcohol. If you’re on the highway, drive defensively. Better yet, nestle in for the night. I suspect a scare or threat this weekend.
Saturday the 24th
It is the day before Christmas and the Moon joins the Sun and Pluto at the galactic center. Astronomers call this Sagittarius B. It’s home of the black hole in the center of the Milky Way. It gained notoriety by folks who interpret the Mayan calendar as ending when the Sun joins Pluto in this position. Guess what: It’s already here and comes here every year. Pluto’s been in the sector for at least 2 years. The New Moon today is a great way to embrace that the future is today. Not some date on the calendar a year from now. There is no better day and eve to embrace the truth that love and compassion can truly change the world.
Sunday the 25th
Christmas Day and the culmination of a long weekend. We’ve had plenty of time to get where we’re going and to settle in. Jupiter appears to stand still today. The dawn of a new day and while New Years is a few days away…this is the beginning of something fresh. At first we face some fears then we start the journey to change it. Jupiter appears to stop in the heavens and move forward. We are at the end of one year and welcome the dawn of another in just a few days. No matter what your religion, Christmas Day is a holiday to enjoy and yes, to be grateful for. So much has been written over the millennia, but Christ left no writings, only stories of his actions. A reminder of the power of compassionate action.
Monday the 26th
Back to work for many. The Moon triggers Saturn and we reluctantly put one foot before the other and slog through it. That may be more real in areas where snow is on the ground. We feel the collective movement forward. Mercury lingers with Rahu. It’s tempting to whine or make excuses but those won’t get you far. Caution: this combination is good for selling a lie or deception. Get your facts before you react.
Tuesday the 27th
Listen deeply and carefully. Love is in the air if you can hear it or feel it. This holiday week is good for romance. It’s also good for simple pleasures. Remind yourself that you are loved simply for being who you are. The more we fight the pull of our own generous spirit the more miserable we become. Good news is coming. It might even be here today. Definitely by the end of the first week in 2012.
Wednesday the 28th
The spirit of the holiday season is strong. The year is winding down. This is a productive day, but one filled with reflection and gratitude. If you can’t find either: Give yourself your favorite music.
Thursday the 29th
The Sun crosses Pluto and we are energized by life. Politicians are taking a little time away from the cameras and We the People rest from the coming barrage of failed compromise.
Friday the 30th
Lots of energy: Plenty of last minute parties and shopping. Yes, we are getting things done and have a little extra energy too.
Saturday the 31st
New Years Even is here. Today brings surprises and probably demonstrations. There is plenty of talk and action toward revolution. The world stage is dynamic. With social media we watch as the Arab world struggles to be reborn. On a lighter side: There is plenty of revelry.
Central Themes:
Uranus square Pluto: Revolution. The Occupy groups are not fading quietly into obscurity. Uranus is the planer of change. Pluto is power and mortality. The combination triggered by a New Moon on Christmas suggests that there will be more protests this month and particularly during the Christmas holiday. The Movement will move again since the Super Committee failed. If the Occupy Movement manages to find a defined purpose and plan while Jupiter Stations opposing Saturn this month, they will become a more organized and powerful voice. If they hold more to revolution without a plan for the future, they will eventually fade. Saturn is exalted so structure wins the day. I do expect more Tea Party gatherings. These are exciting times. This stressful combination remains active through March 2015. This transit occurred 4-21-1932 until 1-17 1934. Another stressful union of Uranus and Pluto came in 1965 through 1966. Precise dates for transits between two very slow moving planets are not as pertinent as zeitgeist of the times. When we think of the mid 60’s we think of political and social change. We think of the economy and jobs and democracy. The Arab Spring has become the Arab year of change. The Tea Parties and the Occupy groups are different in almost every way, except they both want a better economy; more opportunity and both are frustrated with bureaucratic incompetence. The Tea Party is working with the system. We shall see who guides the Occupy folks into a structure. They are still looking for a clear voice.
Lucky You! Jupiter settles in at 6 degrees of Aries [Vedic] or 0 Taurus [Western] for 6 weeks. Jupiter appears to stop in the heavens and move forward on the 25th. He is in Ashlesha. This lunar mansion is the first of 28th and is literally the beginning of the 12 constellations of the zodiac belt. Jupiter spends 1 year in each of the 12 and nearly 6 months in each mansion. Ashlesha is all about the healing power of the dawn. Yes, we do get a fresh start every day. But Jupiter is the planet of teaching, learning, lawyers and politicians. He is the biggest planet and said to be the lucky one. It looks like the end of a year, but it is really the beginning of something fresh. Jupiter carries the energy of revolution forward. He helps us remember that we are not the end of a long line, but we are also the leaders of the next generation. Jupiter heralds a fresh start to a new election and a fresh voice passionate and alive after facing the inevitability of death.
Regarding politics: It looks now that the parties are at a standoff. That will not last. In fact I expect great political upheaval in early 2012. But ideas are brewing now and we will learn later that a plan was hatched by visionaries at the end of 2011. Yes, some are politicians and some are spurred on by greed, but it is moving and we should see it within a few months. Something is amiss in the legislative branch. As I write this, they are home with their families and may spend time in December with their constituents. The push for change begins now.
President Obama: Mars continues to pound the President’s chart. Mars is all about clear and direct action, a team pulling together and sometimes the call to battle, even war. The President is criticized for his ineffective leadership. That will only get louder. Mars will literally stops in the heavens on The President’s own Mars on January 23rd. December and January may be the most difficult months of his Presidency. If not overtly, covertly as he struggles under the weight of the nation’s discontentment. I presume that things have not turned out as he intended. I assume that he wanted and wants to do what he believes is the best thing for the Nation. But Ketu, the karmas that follow his success, will cross his Moon next May. It would not surprise me if the President at least considers stepping down. This is not a fun time and members of his own camp will likely turn against him soon. It makes me very sad but it is up to him to lead even when he is exhausted. I suspect the Solyndra scandal will continue to haunt his Presidency and his conscience and may be the tipping point. The first 5 months of 2012 will be difficult at best and I hope for him and for all of us he finds the wise Saturn in him. If that wisdom guides him to step down: Let it be. If wisdom guides him to stand up to his Party give him the courage. But unless he can pull away from the platform “they are bad, so vote for us,” his Presidency will drown. This is a long sad chapter after such an exciting election. The President is wise to do what is best for the nation or fade into history as the man who chose his party over the people.
How the Love Grows: It is cautious and practical. Passion has its wild moments, but love is a different beast. This month, at least, she is looking for someone to stay with, not someone to run away with.
Where the Money Flows: That seems cautious and frustrated too. The Market may continue to reflect fear. It improves in February, but for now; folks would rather shop than invest.
